HArmonyCa is a hybrid injectable treatment combining hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) to achieve a dual effect when injected into the skin. The aim of treatment is to improve and rejuvenate the face by providing an immediate lift and volumisation from the HA element, followed by a longer-term lifting and restoration of tissue due to the stimulatory effect of the CaHA on natural collagen production.

Immediate volume increase and elevation from the hyaluronic acid within HArmonyCa, followed by increased lifting and skin improvement due to the stimulatory effects of the calcium hydroxyapatite. If you’re unsure where to start, don’t worry — simply get in touch with BU Aesthetics™ or book a consultation with Caroline. She’ll assess your medical history, discuss your aesthetic goals, and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Facial ageing characteristically causes a decrease in collagen and hyaluronic acid, alongside a loss of volume and soft tissue support. Leading to fine lines and wrinkles and a sunken appearance at the cheeks and jowls around the jawline.
The hybrid injectable dermal filler HArmonyCa helps to restore tissue structure by stimulating new collagen production and adding volume back to lift and elevate tissue, restoring youthful features with a dual-action approach.

HArmonyCa is made by the same pharmaceutical company behind the Juvéderm range of dermal fillers, which are also available at BU Aesthetics™ in Merseyside.
Unlike other dermal fillers, HArmonyCa is a hybrid injectable, having two distinct components – hyaluronic acid (HA) and calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA) – which create a dual-action effect not seen with other products.
HArmonyCa is placed into the deeper dermal layers of the skin to achieve immediate soft tissue augmentation, adding volume and lift, which increases over time following bio-stimulation.
HArmonyCa is ideal for full facial rejuvenation procedures to restore features and the structure of the face, lifting and augmenting specific areas to combat facial ageing.
The ideal candidates for treatment are women and men demonstrating facial ageing with volume loss and tissue descent, which highlights structural loss, hollows, wrinkles, and a sagginess in the facial features.
If you have crepey skin with lots of fine wrinkles on your cheeks and at the side of your face, in front of your ears, especially noticeable when you smile, or areas of hollowness at the cheeks, HArmonyCa may be an ideal treatment. It can be injected into the cheeks and jawline.
The product must be injected into the skin’s deep dermal or sub-dermal layers to work appropriately and cannot be used superficially.
Hence, we cannot use HArmonyCa for treatments around the eyes, known as the periocular area, or in the lips or around the mouth, the perioral area. This includes marionette lines and oral commissures.
For these treatments, we offer a range of alternative dermal filler and lip filler products that are better indicated for treating those areas.
The amount of volume loss in different areas of the face will determine how much HArmonyCa is required for treatment in terms of the number of syringes plus how many individual treatment sessions you may require.
This will be explained by our Independent Nurse Prescriber, Caroline, who is the owner of BU Aesthetics™ in West Kirby.
Following a thorough consultation with Independent Nurse Prescriber Caroline, we can determine if you are a suitable candidate for treatment using HArmonyCa.
Caroline will take a full medical history to determine if you have any underlying medical conditions or known allergies or are taking any medication that could make you unsuitable or contraindicated for treatment.
A history of allergy to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine, or anaphylaxis is likely to be contraindicated. HArmonyCa is suitable for men and women of all skin types (colours), so if you are generally in good health, you should be able to have treatment.
If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding or are under 18 years old, you cannot have treatment. Similarly, if you have damaged or broken skin in the area to be treated or an active bacterial, fungal, or viral infection, this must be resolved before treatment.
It is important that you discuss what you hope to achieve from HArmonyCa treatment so we can evaluate if it is the right treatment for your concerns.
It cannot be used around the eyes or mouth or as a superficial treatment thus you may be recommended an alternative treatment, including dermal fillers, lip fillers, polynucleotides, skin boosters or Skinpen Precision micro-needling depending on your goals from treatment.
All aspects of treatment, including any risks, will be fully explained during your consultation, allowing you to book your treatment appointment or have some time to go away and think about it. Few treatments are performed on the same day as your consultation appointment.
Hyaluronic acid is found naturally within the human body, with synthetic versions being used safely in dermal filler products for a considerable time. The body eventually biodegrades and metabolises the hyaluronic gels over time through natural hyaluronidase.
Calcium hydroxyapatite makes up most of the structure of human bones and is a naturally occurring mineral. In its injectable form, it is biodegradable, causes minimal inflammation, and has a good safety history.
Combined with HArmonyCa, the product has been shown to be low-risk. Problems have only been reported due to incorrect injection – both in terms of depth and the area treated.
This is why it’s vital that you only seek treatment from an aesthetic clinician like Caroline, who has undergone authorised training in the use of HArmonyCa.
Common side effects after treatment include redness, swelling, pain, tenderness, or itching at the injection sites. These are usually temporary and resolved within a few days to a week.
Our Independent Nurse Prescriber Caroline has significant experience in complications management and can diagnose and prescribe medications if an adverse side effect occurs. Full aftercare advice will be given.
You should notice an immediate lift and increase in the volume of the facial areas treated with HarmonyCa.
After approximately 1-2 weeks, the calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres will be fully integrated and stimulate new collagen production to increase the lifting effect that you see.
This will further improve over time, with noticeable improvements to skin laxity and quality, restoring structure and elevating features, reducing sagginess, and rejuvenating your appearance.
After the hyaluronic acid has degraded, you will retain a dense collagen framework within the skin, creating a long-lasting lift. A review appointment can be scheduled after one month to assess your results and further optimise with additional treatment sessions if advised.
The company behind HArmonyCa has published clinical data suggesting that it provides a greater lifting effect within the skin compared to other market-leading CaHA-based dermal filler products.
They also note that hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers or bio-stimulating injectable products that stimulate collagen production cannot provide the same results when used individually compared to the dual-action of HArmonyCa.
This is because HarmonyCa is a hybrid product which delivers both components at once. Their data also shows that over 90% of patients reported an improvement in the general appearance of facial areas.
The same clinical data from the manufacturers of HArmonyCa reported high levels of patient satisfaction with their results for up to 19 months after treatment.
Results vary by patient, with treatment expected to last between 9 and 24 months for most people. To maintain results and optimise the treatment, we recommend repeat treatment with HArmonyCa every 12 months.
If you’re unsure where to start, don’t worry, simply get in touch with BU Aesthetics™ or book a consultation with Caroline. She’ll assess your medical history, discuss your aesthetic goals, and develop a personalised treatment plan tailored to your needs.
