Lip Fillers Wirral

Lip filler treatment is also known as lip augmentation or lip enhancement. The treatment uses cosmetic injections of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, specifically indicated as lip fillers, to add volume and definition to the lips, enhancing their natural shape and contour.

Lip fillers can be used to create larger lips for a more voluptuous look the lips, correct thin and ageing lips, or balance out a disproportionate ratio between the top and bottom lip. This treatment is suitable for both men and women of all ages seeking to enhance lip volume or restore youthful definition lost through ageing.

What are lip fillers?

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that helps maintain hydration and volume. Lip fillers use a safe, synthetic version of hyaluronic acid in gel form to enhance definition and volume in the lips.

This makes it an effective treatment for boosting natural shape, correcting asymmetry, and rejuvenating ageing lips.

How do we use lip fillers?

Lip fillers are perfect if you’d like to add subtle volume, smooth ageing lips, or restore natural balance between the top and bottom lip — achieving beautifully proportioned results inspired by the golden ratio.

They can also be used to add definition to the vermillion border, the meeting point between the pink skin of the lip and the white skin around the mouth – often where lip liner is placed – as well as defining the Cupid’s bow and the philtrum area directly beneath the nose.

Why Choose BU Aesthetics for Lip Fillers?

Frequently Asked Questions

Lip fillers can both enhance, augment, and restore the natural shape and size of the lips. The injectable lip filler products we use at BU Aesthetics™ in West Kirby, Merseyside are made from hyaluronic acid gels, making them a safe option for use in the lips because they are both temporary and reversible. We use hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers from Juvéderm, Teosyal and other well-studied brands. We also use dermal filler injections for non-surgical rhinoplasty (the liquid nose job) and dermal filler treatments for full-face rejuvenation.

We take a holistic approach to lip filler treatments at BU Aesthetics™, seeking to maintain a natural and normal look by restoring, rejuvenating, and enhancing your natural lips. The aim is to create the best version of your own lips. We do not advocate using large volumes of lip fillers or having treatment too frequently, which will create an unnatural or swollen pout. This approach risks overly enhanced results from lip filler treatments that appear overdone and stretched. The aim is for a natural result and not to follow celebrity, reality television, or social media trends. Lip fillers are most often requested by women but can benefit men in some cases.

We use lip fillers to:

  • Add volume to augment the lips to enhance thin or ageing lips.
  • Add volume to increase the pout to achieve a sexier or more voluptuous look to the lips, favoured by younger women.
  • Define the shape of the lip, including the vermillion border, Cupid’s bow, and philtrum to enhance the natural pout.
  • Correct asymmetry of the lips where the natural ratio between the top and bottom lip is affected and one lip is markedly thinner or smaller than the other.
  • Improve fine lines and discrepancies around the lips, including treating the oral commissures or corners of the mouth and smoker’s lines above the top lip.

The amount of correction or augmentation sought will determine the amount of lip filler product required for treatment.

If you wish to have lip filler treatment, you must first book a thorough consultation with our Independent Nurse Prescriber, Caroline. She will take a full medical history to determine if you have any underlying medical conditions or known allergies or are taking any medication that could make you unsuitable or contraindicated for treatment.

Lip fillers may be suitable if:

  • You are generally healthy
  • You are over 18 years old
  • You want to add volume, definition, or balance to your lips

You cannot have lip fillers if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You are under 18 (even with parental consent – it’s against the law)
  • You have allergies to hyaluronic acid, lidocaine, or a history of anaphylaxis
  • You have broken skin, infections, or active cold sores in the treatment area

If you’re prone to cold sores, preventative medication can be prescribed before your appointment.

It is important that you discuss what you hope to achieve from lip filler treatment so we can evaluate if it is the right treatment for your concerns. All aspects of treatment, including any risks, will be fully explained during your consultation, allowing you to book your treatment appointment or have some time to go away and think about it. Few treatments are performed on the same day as your consultation appointment.

Yes, lip fillers are considered a safe treatment when administered by a qualified professional. These are non-animal, non-permanent, and fully reversible using a synthetic hyaluronidase medication that Caroline can prescribe in the event of an emergency or for elective correction.

It’s normal to experience some redness, tenderness, or mild bruising at the injection sites, and your lips may feel slightly numb. Swelling usually appears shortly after treatment and can increase over the first few hours — this is a normal reaction. Everyone heals differently, so some people may experience more noticeable or longer-lasting swelling. This typically settles within a few days. If you have any worries about the amount or duration of swelling, Caroline is always available for support and advice.

Potential side effects include an outbreak of cold sores (herpes simplex virus). However, this can be avoided with preventative treatments that can be prescribed in advance.
Rare side effects include hypersensitivity or allergic reactions, the formation of lumps (granulomas), haematoma, or infection. After treatment, you should always report any pronounced pain, blanching or discolouration of the skin on the lips or around the mouth, which could indicate a complication.

As an advanced practitioner with over two decades of nursing experience, Caroline has significant experience in complications management, anatomy knowledge, and prevention to mitigate potential problems. She can diagnose and prescribe medications, including antibiotics and hyaluronidase, if an adverse side effect occurs. Full aftercare advice will be given.

You can return to your normal activities immediately, but there will be some minor downtime from lip filler treatments caused by swelling, which may impact your immediate lifestyle. We recommend avoiding treatment too close to any special events, leaving at least two weeks before parties, weddings, etc.

Results vary by patient. Lip fillers provide an immediate result by adding definition to the lips and augmenting to increase your natural pout. Initial results will be distorted by swelling for the first few days, so you may be concerned that you have ended up with an exaggerated look, but this will resolve and reduce as the swelling subsides.

Expect to wait at least 2 weeks for your lips to fully settle and for all swelling to resolve to reveal your new pout. A review appointment can be booked to evaluate and discuss your results with Caroline two weeks after your initial lip filler treatment if you feel that you need further enhancement.

Most treatments with lip fillers are expected to last 6-18 months. To maintain your enhanced lips, we therefore recommend top-up treatments every 6-9 months.
