What is Skinade?

Skinade is an anti-ageing collagen drink developed in the UK with a patent-pending formulation of active ingredients and micronutrients including hydrolysed marine collagen which boosts how your body naturally makes new collagen and hyaluronic acid – the building blocks of healthy skin.

Its aim is to promote better-looking skin from the inside out.

How Skinade Works

The presence of the marine collagen peptides in Skinade circulating in the bloodstream stimulates the body’s fibroblast or skin cells to increase the production of collagen, helping to plump the skin and reduce the severity of fine lines and wrinkles.

However, it has a dual effect because the marine collagen also stimulates the skin to produce hyaluronic acid which increases hydration making the skin healthier looking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Skinade is a liquid supplement drink containing essential micronutrients which has a stimulatory effect on the skin essentially making it a skincare product. It has a great taste thanks to being flavoured with peach and mangosteen. A common problem with nutritional supplements is that people often dislike the taste, viewing it as ‘medicine’ and finding daily consumption a chore or distasteful so they stop drinking it. This is not the case with Skinade which has a very pleasant and refreshing taste, so patients enjoy drinking it as part of their daily routine.

It comes in ready-to-drink bottles or sachets of a liquid concentrate that requires mixing into a glass of water. These are ideal as a travel option, being compact and airline-compliant. Skinade is a once-a-day supplement to your daily routine, ideally taken in the morning when your stomach is empty to aid absorption. You should avoid drinking other drinks containing caffeine one hour before and after Skinade because caffeine can impair absorption. As a liquid, it has an increased absorption rate into the blood compared to tablet-based supplements, requiring you to ingest large quantities to achieve remotely similar levels of absorption of collagen and other nutrients into your body.

Skinade is a helpful supplement or skincare aid to use on its own or in combination with other treatments available at BU Aesthetics™ for full face rejuvenation, including dermal fillersskin boosterspolynucleotidesskin peels, SkinPen Precision micro-needling, and dermaplane facials.

The active ingredients in Skinade are:

  • 7,000 mg of hydrolysed marine collagen peptides – sourced from freshwater fish, low in sodium (salt) and without the potential for mercury contamination found in seawater sources. This provides a high level of type I and type III collagen and amino acids to match human collagen types for skin production.
  • Vitamin C – helps with the absorption of collagen peptides and protects against free radical damage, essential for natural collagen production.
  • Vitamin B complex containing B1, B2 (Riboflavin), B3 (Niacin), B5, B6, B7 (Biotin), B9 (Folic acid) and B12 to prevent oxidative stress and promote normal, healthy skin.
  • 1,000 mg of MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) – a form of naturally occurring organic sulphur that helps collagen and keratin formation to improve skin elasticity.
  • Organic Flax Seed Oil – provides Omega 3 and Omega 6 to balance dry and oily skin.
  • L-lysine – an essential amino acid for rebuilding the collagen matrix.

The active ingredients in Skinade work together to promote optimal skin function – the body readily absorbs all the micronutrients that are in solution in the drink – and encourages the production of new collagen and hyaluronic acid in the skin to combat the signs of ageing. There is no hyaluronic acid within the ingredients, as you would find in injectable products like skin boosters or dermal fillers, it is simply proven to trigger this action within the skin itself and promote natural hyaluronic acid production.

Before you start a course of Skinade collagen drinks, Caroline, our Independent Nurse Prescriber at BU Aesthetics™, will check your medical history to determine if you have any underlying medical conditions or known allergies or if you are taking any medication that could make you unsuitable or contraindicated for the nutritional supplement. This is particularly relevant if you have any underlying liver or kidney concerns or food allergies. Similarly, a known sensitivity to B vitamins or those taking Vitamin B supplements (particularly B3, niacin) will require additional management.

Skinade is a daily nutritional supplement for adults (over 18s), suitable for otherwise healthy men and women. It does not contain alcohol, added sugar, artificial flavours, or artificial colours. It is also free from lactose, gluten, and dairy.

However, Skinade contains marine collagen sourced from freshwater fish, making it unsuitable for those with a known allergy to fish or fish products or strict vegans or vegetarians. It does not contain bovine (cow) or porcine (pig) collagen products, making Skinade suitable for those who would avoid these for religious purposes.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you are advised not to take Skinade due to a lack of clinical study data on the effects.

Skinade is fully tested and only uses ingredients approved for use in supplements.

There is no downtime, but you may notice some mild body changes from use. For example, a discolouration or bright hue to your urine is common when urinating after taking your daily drink. Skinade can sometimes cause a mild laxative effect, but this is rare and short-lived.

Results vary per person. You should start to notice improvements in your skin quality after approximately one week of drinking Skinade daily. This will increase over time with your skin feeling and looking plumper, smoother, and more radiant. Fine lines and wrinkles will improve with continued use of the drink over several months.

Clinical data from controlled studies of a 90-day course of Skinade found a 58% increase in collagen density and a 30% increase in skin hydration.

Continued use of Skinade, as part of a skincare regime, is recommended to improve skin health and hydration. The product’s positive effects will be gradually lost if you cease taking the supplement.
